Our comic book, P.I. Jane, created with Lauren Burke and art by Tony Maldonado, was developed initially to fill the gap that exists in the comics industry: stories for, about, and to empower young girls! Our goal is to foster a love of comic books and promote reading by representing girls in a way that isn’t exploitative, sexist, or demeaning. With this shared vision, Caliber Comics published both our webcomic strip collection and our single issue stories.
Temp by day, private eye by night (and also on her lunch break), the character of Jane Day is intended to be a portrayal of women’s natural superpowers . She’s a work in progress, evolving with each new case, but she’s capable and finds power in her self-discovery and bravery. She’s essentially a representation of the old adage, “feel the fear and do it anyway.” We can all agree there are strong, female superhero characters, but they often rely heavily on supernatural powers. Jane’s special power is her imagination and her friendships. She finds strength in that world and uses it to feel safe in her own, while defending others.
We would love to see her brought to a larger audience through the medium of television, and that is currently underway with Lighthouse Pictures. But we need your superpower of sharing Jane to elevate the demand for her to go into production. Pick up a copy through Caliber or on your favorite digital platform and read it to or with your children and if you like, share the love for her story and the need for more strong women in comics.
